Yesterday we received our stock of Cloth Diapers for Dillon. This is our first time with the economical and environmentally friendly alternative to diapers.
Having been a disposable user in the past the cost difference was well worth the try this time around.
I find it amusing that cloth diapering is making a comeback with today's culture as you might see with bell bottoms or hot pants. It isn't just the new trend that is interesting, it is the advancement of the cloth diapers and the MANY different types parents have to choose from.
It is no longer just a cloth flat, clothing pins, and plastic cover. There a several varieties as far as types of absorbency such as hemp, bamboo, microfiber, but difference in style as well.
It really is money saving solution, that takes a lot of research for those interested in switching over.
Fortunately for me I had a relatively close friend and acquaintance who was adamant in providing information on her cloth diapers. Even getting me into co-ops to find them cheaper. She used different types which made it helpful for me to determine the type diaper brand I wanted to go with.
So for Dillon, we chose AlvaBaby brand cloth diaper. Since he is not here yet, we went with a OS(one size) diaper that can be used from 8 to 35 pounds. We bought thirty total diapers, which each came with one MF(microfiber) insert. In addition to the diapers we bought thirty more inserts in Bamboo, as well as the cloth wipes, and wet sacks to store the soiled diapers.
Again, because Dillon is not here yet, we are unsure if he will or will not be a heavy wetter. Meaning how frequently he will soil a diaper. I have read that Hemp and Bamboo inserts are the most absorbent and hold more moisture than microfiber. That is why we chose the additional inserts in Bamboo rather than the microfiber, and they are just slightly more expensive than the microfiber.
We ended up spending $260.00 for everything. I believe it was a good investment on diapers to be used from birth to 3-ish years.
So...what has you wording about this Wordless Wednesday?
